A Study on the perception of hospitalized children's parents about the meaning of caring


Abstract
Today, technilogy-oriented Health Care System caused the depersonalization and deprivation of the human dignities.
Caring is the moral ideals of nursing whereby the end of protection, enhancement and preservation of human dignity. So, caring must be the central and unifying domain for the body of knowledge and practice in nursing.
The purpose of this study is to describe the perception of hospitalized children's parents about the meaning of caring.
Descriptive survey was bone for the study through interviewing case by case with the open-ended questionnare. The number of sample was 92, collected at R hospital from December 20th, 1991 to January 30th, 1992.
@ES The results are as follows:
@EN 1. Open-ended questions were evaluated that 32 kinds of statements about caring were meaningful.
2. Thirty-two kinds of statements about the meaning of caring were classified by 11 categories. Those are Concern, Comfort, Helping, Love, Commitment, Presence, Warmth, Empathy, Truth, Teaching, and Respect for Person.
3. The distribution of holistic indicator of professional caring has appeared, respectively, As a being (62.9%), Relating (15.5%), Doing (21.6%).
